How do they work?

A conventional charge controller simply connects the solar module to the battery when the battery is discharged. The conventional controller limits the voltage going into the battery and consequently limits the amps too.

The MPPT controller recognizes the high potential voltage of the solar module and performs magic when reducing the voltage by simultaneously increasing the amperage charge to your batteries!

They do their best work in cool climates (increasing charge current up to 30% or more!) but will pay for themselves in warmer regions as well.

We carry two manufacturers' products: Blue Sky Products and BZ Products. Both make charge controllers that include MPPT circuitry so that they prevent battery overcharging and increase the output of your solar modules.

We tested these under worst-case conditions and got 5 to 8 percent more power than a system without any charge controller. You can expect more boost than this if the batteries are substantially discharged or the weather is cool.

An MPPT may seem pricey to you, but it can give you the equivalent power of a small extra solar module for less money! And it doesn't take up nearly as much space!!
