SMSB - Solar Module Stanchion Bracket

A unique design providing the extra electrical energy needed for cruising sailboats...

  • Fits any boat with stanchions.
  • Captures maximum direct sun: The bracket extends a hinged pair of solar modules outboard, away from shadows, and can be tilted towards the sun through 120 degrees of rotation for ultimate efficiency.
  • 110 watts of charging power: Framework holds 2 Shell SM 55 watt modules.
  • One-hand operation: Easily deployed by releasing a line from a cam cleat, the assembly swings outward and then unfolds. To store, simply fold modules together and pull line through cam cleat. A tethered stainless steel pin locks assembly in either position.
  • Protected and secure: When not in use, twin modules are stored glass surfaces together in vertical position inside the safety of the rub rail.
  • Compact, space-saving: Assembly stores 1.6" outside stanchions and 2.0" inside with room underneath the assembly for sheets or mooring lines.
  • Easy installation: Stainless steel U-bolts fasten bracket to stanchions with 7/16" wrench in 5 minutes.
  • Powder-coated marine grade aluminum framework and protective ventilated backing for modules.
    • S.M.S.B. alone: 18 lbs.
    • with 2 Shell SM 55's installed: 42 lbs.

Owner's comment:

"We've wanted to be off the grid for years. Living aboard made that possible. Hotwire made it easy. The SMSB is simple to install and even simpler to use. It is a thoughtfully designed and well made solution to the surprisingly difficult problem of logically placing solar panels aboard a sailboat. Guthrie and Sadie (8 and 6) argue over who gets to deploy them. And Guthrie thinks they're cool. Thanks, Hotwire!"
